Refined coal can be made in the Smelter from Level 33 onwards. Each piece takes 6 hours to be made (or 5 hours and 6 minutes in a mastered Smelter), and requires:
- three units of coal
They can be bought or sold for a maximum price of 1,080 coins for 10 pieces. As is the case for all Smelter products, completing a truck order requesting one or more pieces rewards players with a random voucher.
Refined coal can be used to make iron bracelets and top hat , as well as upgrade the personal train in the player's town.

Trivia
- Refined coal was added to the game with the May 2014 update.
- In real life, refined coal is simply pure coal that has been polished and cleaned. This is usually done before the coal is burned.
